17 % of servicemen in Afghanistan ...

Senator Jim Webb, (D-Va) chairman of the Senate armed services committee military personel panel, was surprised to hear that 17% of american soldiers in Afghanistan is taking a psychotropic (or pain) medication. He quoted the Army Times which is taking its information from the Defense Logistics Agency. The total costs in the last 9 years is 1,100,000,000 $. The 4 classes of drugs involved are (with the cost in 2009) antipsychotics ( 16,000,000 $ ), benzodiazepines (17,000,000 $), anticonvulsants (35,000,000 $), antidepressants (41,000,000).
